Sciatic Nerve Pain!

Sciatica is a medical term used to describe symptoms of leg pain, numbness and tingling travelling from the low back through sciatic nerve to the back of the leg and sometimes even the foot is involved. Sciatic nerve pain is characterized by sharp shooting pain, mostly experienced while sitting for too long. It also causes burning along the path of the sciatic nerve. Sometimes, it also causes difficulty getting up from a seated position. Mostly the pain starts where the sciatic nerve emerges from spine in the lower back. It mostly starts at the L3 segment of the lower back. It runs from the lower back, to the buttocks and in the posterior part of the lower leg.

Sciatica pain treatment symptoms involve burning pain, tingling, numbness, weakness and sometimes pain radiating into the foot. The most common causes of sciatica are lumbar disc herniation, degenerative disc disease, isthmic spondylolisthesis, lumbar spinal stenosis, piriformis syndrome and sacroiliac joint dysfunction. There are other causes but as well but they are not as common like pregnancy, fracture, trauma, spinal tumor, scar tissue, sprains strains and other soft tissue injuries, infection and so on. It is always recommended to have a proper diagnosis before starting the treatment for sciatica pain. In severe cases, patient may find it difficult to move the leg and have severe pain in the lower back at the point of origin of sciatic nerve. Patient will also feel pain shooting in the foot and toes. Thus, there should be a proper diagnosis done before starting the treatment for sciatic pain as it can be caused by different reasons.
